The fourth and final blog post is upon us, and all I feel is gratitude and sadness. I'm having a hard time realizing I have to go back to school in only a few days, and the next time I'll get to see the inside of an O.R. will be in many years. My internship was so much more than I expected and I wish I had a photographic memory so I could remember everything I learned. Dr. Butzen and everyone in the Animas Orthopedic Associates practice were so nice and helped me tremendously. Working a fourth week was definitely worth it so that I was able to get a glimpse at all the other jobs revolving around this career and gain more insight on how I feel about this line of work. Overall, I still feel like I would best fit in with a medical-oriented job, but now I know I want to do something with a low-risk factor where I wouldn't be playing with people's lives everyday, just helping them be happier.
My advice for people going into an internship like this would be to make sure you have all the paperwork and tests done that you might need for this experience...it will help so much. Also, record what you got to see everyday and take as many pictures as you can without seeming creepy. I also suggest working four weeks instead of just three. Take what you can get while you can get it.
Take a look at the interview I conducted with Dr. Butzen. It contains lots of necessary advice if you are considering going into this field.
