La poesía de la comida
This project focused on using our knowledge of Spanish and different cultures to compile an ode to a food popular in the country of our choice. We started off studying famous poets such as Pablo Neruda to gain knowledge on the purpose of odes, and how to effectively create an ode. After that, we practiced writing poems mimicking Pablo Neruda's style on any given food. Next, we chose our South American country and began researching common dishes in that country, and the importance of that dish. We then began creating our odes to our chosen dish and refining the poems in Spanish. Finally, we prepared our dishes to compliment our odes during exhibition.
For my project, my country of choice was Argentina, and I chose to make Alfajores. Before this project, I never paid much attention to the importance of foods, but throughout this experience I was able to appreciate a new variety of foods and show that to others. The most difficult thing about this project was composing the poem. Even in English, poems are difficult for me, but then relaying that in Spanish was even more difficult. After I refined my poem so that in English the message was clear and sounded poetic, I realized the hardest part had yet to come. Since English and Spanish don't translate exactly, and because of my limited knowledge of Spanish, it was a challenge for me to translate my ode while still keeping the message the same and making sure the poetic devices used came across effectively. Besides constantly badgering my teacher for input on my poem, there was sadly no decent solution to my problem. Despite these challenges I had to endure, I still ended up with a poem I'm proud of. My persistence on perfection in translating my poem paid off because I ended up with a project I can be satisfied with. As always, refinement is a key aspect in anything, so if I had the choice to redo my project, there would be a few things I would change. First, I would make sure not to get surgery on my broken knee during this project, so I wouldn't have to miss school and I could therefore make sure the requirements for everything were well received by me. Second, I would spend more time on making my poem a piece of art, rather than making sure my food is a piece of art. I would focus all my attention on my poem. Thirdly and lastly, I would get more input from others on my poem so that I could better refine it. This project was a great starting point at getting me interested in the origins of food and cultures, and the importance of those things.

Alfajores Recipe
Ingredientes
-1 taza harina de maíz
-¾ taza harina
-1 cucharilla polvo de hornear
-½ cucharilla bicarbonato de soda
-¼ cucharilla sal
-8 cucharillas mantequilla
-1/3 taza azúcar
-2 yemas de huevos
-½ cucharilla extracto de vainilla
-1 taza dulce de leche
Instrucciones
--Mezcla la harina de maíz, la harina, el polvo de hornear, el bicarbonato de soda, y la sal en un bol. Pon aparte.
--Pon la mantequilla y el azúcar en una batidora y mezcla por aproximadamente tres minutos.
--Añade kayemas de huevos y el extracto de vainilla. Mezcla.
--Pon la masa en papel film y pon en el refrigerador por lo menos una hora o hasta firme.
--Corta la masa en esferas de dos pulgadas y pon en una bandeja de hornos.
--pon en un estante de alambre hasta fresco.
--Pon el dulce de leche entre dos alfajores a haz un sándwich. Espolvorea con azúcar flor.
