Short Story Book Cover
In this project, we wrote a short story in Humanities, then tried to portray the mood of the story onto the book cover to try to create a successful book cover that would be produced in the 'real world'. Go to my Humanities page to read my short story!

Essential Questions Wrap UpQ: What makes for an engaging book cover?
A: There are many aspects of an engaging and successful book cover, but during this project I was able to uncover a few. I learned that color is an important aspect of a great book cover because it attracts the viewer to the book and can set the mood of the story. I also learned that less is more. The more you put on your cover, the more covered up the main mood that you are trying to communicate. You want your book cover to be simple so that it is easy to read and the mood and theme is clearly communicated. Q: How and why is art used as a vehicle for communication? A: Art is used as a vehicle for communication because it is more easily understood than writing or verbal explanation. Art can communicate feelings and emotions by the colors that they use, the pictures that are displayed on the cover, and the font that the title and author are displayed in. By using dark colors, you can make an eerie cover, but by using yellows and pinks you can create a happy, energetic feel. The font says alot about the book because it can portray the mood through the shaping of the letters. The pictures or artwork mean alot in portraying feelings in a book cover because it gives you the overall mood of the book or story without giving away too much. Q:To what extent does a work of art depend on the viewer's point of view? A: The viewers point of view is all that matters in creating a work of art. If you created a book cover with no idea of how an audience would respond to it, the cover would be ill received and people would be less likely to read or buy the book. When creating a book cover, you should keep in mind what audience you are trying to reach, and how they will respond to what is on the cover. It's not easy to get into the mindset of the audience you are trying to relate to, but a good artist can do it easily. Basically, when making a book cover, you want to try to take the ideas in your mind, put them on a piece of paper, and have your target audience understand the message on that piece of paper. |
