How My Student Led Conference Affected My Education
A Student Led Conference (SLC) is where each student reflects on what they have learned in school up to a certain point, then they present that information to their parents to keep them updated or ‘in the loop’. So far, I have only had one SLC, but that conference turned out to be very influential to my education. I had to think about what I had done from the beginning of the school year until now, which was half the battle. The second half of the battle was actually finding the work that I had done. Through this process I discovered that even though I thought I was organized, I found a lot of room for improvement. For instance, I found that even if I have tabs in my binder for every project we have done in Math, that doesn't mean that I truly use them. The same relates to my folder in Physics; I've labeled the sides of the folder but still shove them all into the same spot when I’m in a rush. I also learned that not all of my labels and tabs and folders have actually been used. Some of them are empty and some are bursting with papers. Using these discoveries I will improve my organization for my next SLC. Since my SLC was presented, I have done mini conferences with my mom and made sure she is aware of upcoming events. Now that I have done an SLC I feel much more on top of my work and feel proud of what I have accomplished so far. I have benefited from this conference by making myself reflect on what I have done and what I could improve on.
