Today was my first day of my internship with Brian Butzen. I shadowed him all day throughout his tasks.
Here's what I saw:
-Stitches removed from an unfortunate knife incident
- Pre-op consultation for a broken clavicle and torn rotator cuff
-Diagnosing an arthritic flare-up in middle finger
-Pre-op consultation for major wrist hardware removal
-Diagnosing nerve damage from glass shard in finger
-Infection to fingernail, leading to infection in the closest bone, possible amputation in the future.
-Diagnosing a torn posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) in knee
- Cortizone shots to the wrist, knee, and shoulder
-Cast removal for pinned forearm (pictured below)
~Note the pins are outside the skin. Once the bone has healed completely, the pins will come out and the patient won't have metal pins or screws remaining in their arm.
