Last day in the clinic! I'm so sad to be finishing up my internship, but I'm glad I'll get to watch more surgeries tomorrow to close off this experience.
Today I saw...
-Broken Metacarpal from a lacrosse accident
-Deep finger laceration follow-up
~This patient lost his leg in a car accident a while ago and has a prosthetic leg. He cut his finger on his prosthesis.
-Knee, shoulder, thumb, and hip arthritis
-Wrist surgery and unknown mass pre-op
-Forearm surgery follow-up and casting
-Loosened PCL injury
~This patient came in with lots of pain in her knee, and it was visibly boney. After testing her knee stength and examining the x-rays, a loosened PCL was expected. The PCL helps keep the knee in line, like the ACL. This injury was so bad that her tibia was behind the knee, instead of under it.
-Frozen shoulder diagnosis
-2 Fingernail inspections, ankle surgery, and extensive elbow surgery post-ops
-Cortisone shot for tennis elbow, knee arthritis, and finger
-Knee infection follow-up
-Deflation of cyst on middle finger joint
-Unknown wrist pain
-Stiff middle finger follow-up
~This patient had surgery several months ago, but never regained full flexibility of her middle finger because scar tissue had disabled the tendon's ability to move smoothly.
-Meniscus extrusion
Today was a little hectic near the end when Dr. Butzen got a call that one of his patients was in the E.R. The patient with the infected leg Dr. Butzen amputated (pictured in one of my previous posts) fell and broke open his incision. Dr Butzen numbed the area and stitched it up, but it was difficult because the skin was so thick from all the work done on it.
Pictured below is his leg before and after he fell.
